Behind darkness

The door creeps open
A light glow shines through
The floor board quietly squeaks
Announcing his arrival

Her dreams on hold
Her eyes tightly closed
Her teddy by her side
A secret they both know

His room or hers
We just have to wait
His presents made clearer
By his heavy breath

The room now in darkness
Sound of others faint
The door now shut
Hiding a secret they both know

Getting in beside her
Moving in close
Making his presents known
With a smell that holds her fears

Hands all over her body
Creeping under her clothes
Teddy holding her hand tight
A secret he too knows

A rising lump in her throat
Blocks the rising cries
Eyes shut tight
Please, please let her hide

Eventually he has finished
And quietly he leaves
Kissing her on the cheek
She just wants to heave

Lying in the darkness
Feeling even more alone
Her body feeling numb
By a secret they both know

Again she’s in darkness
Only a teddy she can hold
Her teddy knows her secret
He too knows it was wrong

Only teddy knows what happened
And was there when she cried
He knew when it was going to happen
And all the places she would hide.

Her teddy now a little worn
Still makes her feel safe
He keeps an eye out for trouble
And wipes the tears from her face.
