As sun sets...

As sun sets on a peaceful day
the nocturns start to wake.
So, soon it’s they who’ll come to play
and search for food to take.

The owls with their amazing sight
patrol the dark night sky.
In search of prey, with silent flight,
or rodents passing by.

The grasshoppers will rub their knees
as they communicate.
The sound, well carried by the breeze
to help them find a mate.

Badgers emerge up from their set
to play and to explore.
Identified by silhouette
once found, hard to ignore!

A solitary fox may pass
while scavenging for food.
Or maybe hiding in long grass,
these creatures are so shrewd.

As scary bats fly over head,
hidden against the sky,
their image can fill us with dread,
although they are quite shy.

A hedgehog pokes around the dirt
in search of tiny grubs.
It eats for main course and desert
the things it finds in scrubs.

As sun sets on a peaceful day
we get prepared for bed,
but we should walk ‘Nocturnal Way’
and share their world instead!
