Down in the earth

Down in the earth
the seedlings awake.
They know its spring
make no mistake.
putting their roots down deep in the
soil, to gain a good foothold
they do toil.

now many weeks have
gone past,
these tough little seedlings
have reached the surface at last.
now the early morning dew
and the warmth of the sun.
will help send them up the trellis work,
as if they could run.

I know its only early spring,
and just spindly plants I see.
but it wont be long before I see a sweet succulent
throng .
of the one we call sweet pea.
