Waiting

There's a small clockwork train,
And a toy soldier's drum,
A well-loved little teddy bear
And a wooden pop-cork gun,
A lovely toy stage coach
With some little Indians too,
A leather coverer catch-ball
And an old tennis shoe!!

There's a threadbare school tie,
And a small cardboard case,
And a worn-out golliwog
With a faded well-kissed face,
There's an old spinning top
That will probably spin no more,
And there's an old rocking horse
Propped up against the door!!

There's a crooked little hobby horse,
And an old-fashioned cricket bat,
There's a buckled old telescope,
And a tatty cowboy hat!
There's a shoebox full of marbles,
There's a kiddie's fishing line,
And the biggest stash of comics
That you'd ever wish to find!!

This abandoned box excites me  -
It's from an era long since gone
And they've been lying in this attic
Waiting  -  for me to come alone!
I'm going to clean them and restore them
And make them look like new -
Then this family inheritance
Will be passed on down to you!!
