The princess's reply

Dressed in fine layers of ivory silk
She did delicately step with a sway.
They had met for a picnic on the local green
On that cloudless Mid-summer's day.
There 'neath the shade of the tall willow tree
His love for her he did proudly confess -
There he proposed in a tone so soft and low
To his charming and sweet young Princess.
She took a step back - hung her head low
And was just on the verge of reply
When who should appear but a handsome young man
Who just happened to be riding by!
He looked at the food spread  out on that rug
Said - "That food does exceed a Knight's pay!"
But 'cos his voice it was so mellow and kind
They they invited that young man to stay!
So  - the three of them sat to partake of fine wine
Whilst they munched on some salmon and cress!
Imagine the look on the face of those men
When the Princess let out a sigh -
Threw back her head  - and
Screamed   "Y- E- SSSSSSSS!!"
