The pleasure's in the giving

Hip! Hip! Hooray!  It's Christmas!
I really love this time of year!
It is the time we
All give presents
To those we hold so dear!

Now I'm buying nothing fancy -
Just what I can afford,
Just something small
And simple
Right across the board!

The reason I rejoice at Christmas
Is because I can start to clear
Out all the flipping rubbish
That I was given
At Christmastime last year!

There's a red and yellow lampshade
Which my neighbour bought for me,
And a pair of flimsy bloomers
Which hang like curtains
Well below my knee!

There's a tiny perfume bottle
That was bought somewhere in France
But the smell resembles something
Similar to
Rotting cabbage plants!

There's a quilt of lace and satin
Which I received from Uncle Fred
And the fact it is crumpled,
Stained and threadbare
Proves he took it off his bed!

Now all these presents I accepted!
Yes! I took them with good grace!
And since the pleasure is in giving
It's such a joy - when I re-wrap them
Then give them back and watch their face!

Hip! Hip! Hooray! It's Christmas!
I really love this time of year!
And if I get a gift that is unpleasant
I just save it to re-cycle
And  -  send it off to someone else next year!
