Precious cargo

As you said that you'd return I looked deep inside your eyes,
Your words were so sincere but my heart it heard your lies.

You said "I will return someday - I promise you sweetheart -
Then we'll build a life together and we nevermore will part!"

You held me for a moment as you said your last goodbye,
You said your heart was breaking but not a teardrop did you cry.

Your body said "I'm leaving you - I won't be returning home"
And I knew that you had broken free and forever you would roam!

I stood alone and watched your ship as it sailed far out to sea,
The precious cargo stored on board was the love you once had for me!

Upon the breeze I heard you pray that I'd forget you in a while
But I know that won't be possible since I carry your unborn child!

Your heart was set on leaving us - you said your fortune you must make
I did not want you feeling trapped because we made one mistake.

I pray the Lord will keep you safe and bring you home someday,
Then we'll build a life together - should you decide to stay!

In the meantime I'll be coping with bringing up our child,
And be counting as a blessing everytime he'll laugh or smile.

If you heart should ever tell you dear to return to me someday
I'll be standing on this quayside where you left me on that day.

And I'll introduce you to your offspring whom I hope you will adore -
Perhaps you'll keep your promise and stay with us for evermore!

Then this precious little cargo that I carry here inside
Will have two happy loving parents forever by his side!
