My eyes were all apopping and my mouth gaped open wide
As the little mouse approached me and stood there by my side.
He said "I wish you wouldn't scream like that when I run across the floor
Because when I turned to look around I nearly bashed into the door!!"

I nearly toppled sideways when I heard him speak so clear
And I thought "Well any minute now he's gonna disappear!"
But the mouse he wasn't budging he obviously had more to say
And I knew I'd have to listen or he'd never go away!

The mouse said, "I've been waiting just for you to come along
To see why you are frightened or want to do me wrong.
Why you're setting all those nasty traps to catch me in a snare
When all I want is a little home so I can settle down somewhere!"

His little eyes were filled with tears and my horror ebbed away
And I felt ashamed inside my heart when he went on to say -
"My wife and children disappeared when you left the cat in here
All I've left is a broken heart that's filled with dread and fear!"
