Most precious blossom

A gay perfusion of lilac and pink
Is this bundle of flowers I hold
A variety of pretty blossoms
Gift wrapped in a ribbon of gold.
There are roses, carnations and fuchsia,
There are lilies and gypsum so bright,
Their perfume seems to engulf me
As I gaze at this wonderful sight!

You awkwardly handed them to me
I could feel the sorrow inside you
As you said "I'm sorry I hurt you dear Mother"
And I knew from your voice it was true!
These flowers are gorgeous I grant you
Filling the air with a scent oh so sweet
But the most precious blossom among them
Stood before me - nervously shuffling his feet!

In one moment of madness he'd hurt me
He never knew how deep his words hurt
He found out what he'd done in the morning
And he said that he felt just like dirt!
All day this had festered inside him
And he knew he must put this thing right,
So he gathered his thoughts and his heartache
As he approached me the following night!

This token of sorrow he then gave me
As his words they rose from his heart,
I reached out to my precious young blossom
And then clasped him so close to my heart!
No matter how much he'd have hurt me
Or what terrible thing that he'd done
I told him I'd love him forever  -
My wonderful precious young son!
