Mice beware

A mouse and a crocodile sprawled out on a bank
Enjoying the mid-day sun.
They'd closed their eyes and spread out flat
Well away from everyone.
They lay spread there for an hour or more
'Til a cloud it drifted by.
And a slight cool breeze awoke them both
With a great big lazy sigh!

The mouse got up and he stretched his legs
And said "I think I'll go for a swim."
"Sounds good to me" said the crocodile
And so he followed him!
They splashed around in the murky depths
'Til both were tuckered out,
So they made for the shore to catch their breath
And had a gentle walk about.

"I'm hungry now!" the mouse exclaimed
As he sniffed into the breeze.
"What I wouldn't do just to have right now -
A big hunk of some Cheddar Cheese!"
"Well you know" said Croc "Now you mention it
I haven't eaten for a day or two  -
But there's nothing here for me to eat
So what do you think I should do?"

Mouse looked at Croc and he felt so sad
And he wondered what he could do.
"I'm much too small to go and hunt
And bring something back for you!"
Croc turned to the mouse - he smiled and he said
"Why don't you close your eyes -
And if you count to ten I guarantee
You'll be in for a BIG surprise!"

Mouse did just that and began to count
From one to the number ten -
But with one swift swoop from the crocodile -
He was chewed like a midget gem!!
Now listen mice  -  listen one and all
Especially those whose friend is a crocodile  -
NEVER close your eyes -
NEVER count to ten -
and NEVER trust his hungry smile!
