Everywhere and somewhere

I sat and looked around me in this peaceful countryside
Across the lush green fields to where the mountains touched the skies.
I then turned and looked around me at this piece of land of mine
And wondered what it was that made some people so unkind.

'Cos they opened up my cupboard and shook those skeletons within
Because they thought themselves superior to their most recent 'blow-in'.
I've tried to live my life a good way - helping others when I could -
And if help was ever needed then that's where I'd be stood.

But they turned the World against me and they hoped that I would go -
And you know, I nearly would have - until their secrets I did know!
Some of them were liars who were cheating on their wives;
Accepting bribes and double-dealing just to spicen up their lives!

Some stood in Church on Sunday morn with collection box in hand -
You'd think they couldn't raise their voices let alone their hand!
Most were dressed in expensive suits all dolled up to a tee -
Trying to convince themselves they were Pillars of Society!!

Some have travelled far and wide, but little do they know
Everyone knows of their secret visits to the Brothels of Soho!
And the women stood next to their men are almost twice as bad -
They must never let their neighbours know half their relatives are mad!

That little child on his mother's knee isn't raised by his real Dad -
And his sister is his cousin if the truth were ever had!!
So, I take comfort in the fact that when they're disrespecting me
Someday their pasts will come to haunt them - and oh! how sorry they will be!

These people they are everywhere - there's nowhere they won't be -
Yet I know where there is somewhere where I can just be me -
Away from those who slander me and I have nothing else to hide -
It is in the bosom of my family and this loving home where I abide!
