Enchanted land

In this lost enchanted land
Where the trees are silvery grey
Stands the statue of a woman
Looking out across the bay.
Legend tells us she was witty,
She was so beautiful and tall,
Her heart was gentle and so caring
Showing love to one and all!

But along came some other
With dreams of being number one,
Although she was equal in her beauty
They say her heart was cold as stone!
She took one look upon her rival
Then decided she must go  -
So she cast a spell upon her
For how long we'll never know!

This statue of a lady
Who looks out across the bay
Was once know by the townsfolk
As the enchanting Mollie Mae.
She went to bed one evening
In her gown of frilly lace
But they discovered in the morning
She was gone without a trace!

Now her rival she was happy
How she clapped her hands with glee
Until the townsfolk heard her gloating
So -  they hung her from a tree.
With her dying breath she told them
Of the spell that she had cast
But she simply wouldn't tell them
Just how long that spell would last!

Those townsfolk were despondent
They had lost their will to live -
Each blamed himself for Mollie's fate
And found it so hard to forgive!
Now their land is hushed and quiet
Not a sound or shadow there -
Just the lonely statue of a lady
Once so beautiful and fair!
