Christmas present run

Autumn term comes to its close
Christmas plays complete
Carols around the Christmas tree
So many festive treats.

Parcels neatly wrapped and packed
Ready for the present run
Time to visit the family
Thankfully not far flung.

Driving through the country side
Weather turned seasonal best
Snowflakes falling in the night
On field and hedge now rest.

Christmas music fills the air
While turkey meal consumed
So good to be with family now
Good times pass so soon.

From house to house we make our calls
Our gifts exchanged with glee
A glass of wine, a piece of cake
We wonder what they'll be.

This yearly ritual comes to an end
So many hugs and kisses
We finally make our way back home
Filled with love and Christmas wishes.

We journey back down now dark lanes
The moon hangs low in the sky
Illuminates the hedges and fields
The snow on ground still lies.

Is this a winter omen
I wonder as we drive
Maybe there is more to come
This keeps our hopes alive.

What wonder it would be for us
To wake on Christmas morn
To see a blanket of crisp white snow
To celebrate Christ is born.
